
Beckenham Tennis Club
(a) Under Club Rule 20(a) the Tennis Section shall be managed by a Committee, the Powers of which shall be those delegated to it by the General Committee or vested in it by the Section members at the Annual General Meeting of the Section.
(b) The Committee shall comprise:
Officers:
These Officers will be elected annually under the terms of Bye-law 2 and will be ex-officio members of the Tennis Committee with full voting rights.
Members:
In addition to the Officers there shall be six elected members of whom one-third shall retire annually in rotation, but shall be eligible for re-election (i.e. an elected member will serve a nominal period of three years).
Candidates for election to the position of Officer or Committee member shall be proposed and seconded by two members of the Tennis Section. The candidate having satisfied his or her willingness to be considered, both proposing members shall sign the proposal and pass it to the Hon. Secretary at least seven days prior to the Annual General Meeting of the Tennis Section. Election will be by a simple majority of those members present and voting.
Nominations for the position of Officer or Committee member can only be accepted from the floor of the meeting if there are insufficient nominations for the positions to be filled.
The Tennis Committee is empowered to:
(a) Elect one of their members to be Chair. Such Chair shall hold office for one year and shall be eligible for re-election but no person may be re-elected who has consecutively served as Chair for the immediately preceding three years. The Chair will take the chair at the A.G.M. which ends his or her year of Office.
(b) Co-opt extra officers or members as they see fit. Such officers or members shall have full voting rights.
(c) Appoint such sub-committees as they deem necessary and may co-opt any member of the Club to serve on such a sub-committee.
(d) Nominate under Club Rule 16(b) a member of the Tennis Committee to represent the Tennis Section on the General Committee. Such member shall be responsible for the liaison and communication with the General Committee. There may be an alternate nominated for this position.
(a) The Committee shall meet at least ten times during the year.
(b) At all Committee meetings the quorum shall be five members (including co-opted members).
(c) The Chairman shall have a casting vote at Committee meetings.
(d) The President of the Club and the Chairman of the General Committee may attend any meeting of the Committee in an ex-officio capacity without voting rights.
(a) The Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) of the Tennis Section shall be held at the end of the summer season each year. Twenty-one days' notice of the A.G.M. shall be given to all senior members of the Section. A quorum at such meetings shall be 25 members.
(b) The Committee or 12 ordinary members of the Tennis Section may, through the Hon. Secretary, call an Extra-ordinary General Meeting of the Tennis Section. Fourteen days' notice of such a meeting must be given to all members. A quorum at such a meeting shall be 25 members. No business other than that stated in the notice convening the meeting shall be discussed without the consent of the Chairman.
(c) The Chairman shall have a casting vote at General Meetings of the Tennis Section, all other senior members shall have one vote.
(d) The President of the Club and the Chairman of the General Committee may attend any General Meeting of the Tennis Section in an ex-officio capacity without voting rights (except if covered by (c) above).
(a) Discipline:
If the Committee considers that any member is in serious breach of any Club Rule or Bye-law or any Tennis Section Rule or Bye-law or has acted in any way which is prejudicial to the Club or any other member, it may recommend to the General Committee that such member be dealt with under Club Rule 13(b). Before such recommendation is made, said member shall be given fourteen days' notice of the proposed recommendation during which time he/she may present an explanation.
(b) Life Membership:
The Tennis Section Committee shall have power to recommend to the General Committee as a Life Member without payment of any further tennis subscription [in accordance with Club Rule 5(a)] any current or past member who in the opinion of the Tennis Section Committee shall have rendered special service to the Tennis Section or in some other exceptional way did merit the award of Life Membership. The appointment shall be subject to nomination by the General Committee and confirmed by the next Club Annual General Meeting. A Life Member shall be entitled to all the privileges of a Playing Member of any section to which he or she belongs or belonged.
(c) Playing Rules and Regulations:
All members must adhere to the Tennis Section Playing Rules and Regulations.
(d) The Tennis Section Committee has the power to add to, or alter, the Section Bye-laws and/or the Section Playing Rules and Regulations by two-thirds of the Committee voting in favour, but should any Bye-law, Rule or Regulation be challenged at the Tennis Section A.G.M., and be defeated by two-thirds of the members present and voting, then such Rule or Regulation shall be suitably amended or withdrawn.
(e) These Tennis Section Bye-laws, compiled by the Tennis Section Committee and ratified by the General Committee must be brought to the attention of all Tennis members in accordance with Club Rule 21.
